With all the recent Google algorithm changes, it’s becoming more important than ever to develop your own product. It’s something that you will always be in control of, and no algorithm will ever be able to take it away from you.

One of the best ways to develop your own product is to create a wordpress plugin for yourself. Michael Dunlop for example created the Popup Domination wordpress plugin which has made lots of money for himself and his affiliates.

You don’t even have to sell your plugin to see some benefits either. Shane from IMImpact.com just recently launched his free Social Essentials wordpress plugin to his readers. While he won’t make any money off of it directly, everyone who installs this plugin will see his most recent posts in their WordPress dashboard. How’s that for an out-of-the-box method for driving non-Google traffic to your site?

Hiring Your Plugin Developer

Even though I don’t know how to code anything myself, it’s so easy these days to develop your own plugins using different outsourcing services. My favorite place is ODesk, but I’ve also heard good things about vWorker.com and Scriptlance.com as well.

The first thing you need to do is create a good project description. To make a good project description you need to be specific. That is, explain exactly what you want, how you want it done, and when you want it done by. Vague project descriptions cause problems. So the more specific you can be the better.

After you get a bunch of candidates, then you need to pick the best one of the bunch. There’s always a few candidates that stick out, and I always like to interview them over Skype. This is very important! You always need to talk to prospective candidates and make sure you would be comfortable working with them.

Chatting with your prospective programmer over Skype can reveal many things about their personality and will definitely make your decision to pick a candidate much, much easier.

Make sure you negotiate a good price for yourself and an acceptable deadline for project completion. Pick the best person you’ve interviewed and you are all set to get started with your project.

Hiring the right programmer is the most crucial step to getting your wordpress plugin finished successfully. So make sure to use the sites I’ve mentioned and follow the tips I suggest. If you do so, then you should have a fully featured and functional wordpress plugin completed in no time.

I just recently wrote an ArticleRanks review on my blog. It mainly focuses on ArticleRanks itself. But how does ArticleRanks compare against other blog networks. What about ArticleRanks vs Traffic Kaboom?

ArticleRanks vs TrafficKaboom – The Interface

I find the ArticleRanks interface to be pretty clunky. It is fairly similar to the one used by SEOLinkVine and My Article Network, but since their server feels really slow, it makes the submission process more tedious than it should be. I always preview my articles before I submit them, and this just takes 1 too many clicks to do this with a bunch of waiting in between.

Traffic Kaboom on the other hand just revamped their interface. They used to have their own 8-step wizard for submitting articles, but they have now combined everything into a 1 step wizard which makes the submission process so much easier.

Winner: TrafficKaboom

ArticleRanks vs TrafficKaboom – Network Quality

Both ArticleRanks and Traffic Kaboom are public blog networks, and as such are typically are filled with lower quality blogs (in terms of PageRank) than their private network counterparts. In my link building case studies I found that ArticleRanks contains slightly higher PR blogs (on average) than Traffic Kaboom does.

IP diversity is also an important consideration of any blog network. You want the blogs in each network to be hosted on a variety of class C IP addresses. Here, ArticleRanks comes out quite a bit of ahead. Only 1 in 4 of your Traffic Kaboom submissions will go to a blog with a unique class C IP address. On ArticleRanks, 1 in 2 submissions are to unique class C IPs.

Winner: ArticleRanks

ArticleRanks vs TrafficKaboom Extras

What is nice about ArticleRanks is that you can use their free plan when starting out. Just purchase a high PR domain and add it to the system to build up your credits. ArticleRanks will also automatically build backlinks to your distributed articles using social bookmarking sites which helps with your indexing.

Traffic Kaboom just started building backlinks to your articles as well. Traffic Kaboom also has some nice extras like the ability to add outsourcing accounts, automatic rank tracking of your primary keyword and some extensive training.

Winner: Traffic Kaboom

ArticleRanks vs TrafficKaboom – Price

ArticleRanks offers 3 different membership options. There’s the free plan which I’ve mentioned above that lets you promote up to 5 different sites. Then they have a Starter Plan for $39.99 a month and a Pro Plan for $89.99 a month. The Pro plan allows you to submit unlimited articles to unlimited sites.

TrafficKaboom currently only has one membership option. You can get started with the $1, 14 day trial which then re-bills you at $197 for 3 months (about $65/mo).

Winner: ArticleRanks

ArticleRanks vs TrafficKaboom – Overall

So ArticleRanks vs TrafficKaboom…which wins overall? While the comparison was quite close, if I had to pick one, I would choose ArticleRanks. The most important factor in my mind for joining any blog network is network quality and ArticleRanks comes out a bit ahead here. Also the more flexible pricing structure allows it cater to a wider variety of people. Still Traffic Kaboom is not bad at all and it does have a lot of things going for it.

If you are building a blog for yourself, or maybe designing sites for your clients, using a WordPress Theme framework may be the way to go. Theme frameworks are much more flexible than standard wordpress themes, and they allow you to design custom WordPress sites more easily that look great as well.

Below are a list of my favorite WordPress Theme frameworks that I’ve personally tried myself.

Thesis Theme – Thesis is one of the original theme frameworks, and it is the one I use on my own site. Thesis has an amazing community of users that use this theme framework which means there are thousands of tips and tutorials out there showing you how to get the most out of the theme. You can pick between 1, 2, and 3 column layouts for your site with a click of the button and the Thesis control panel has a host of options for customizing the look and feel of your site. Thesis also starts out SEO ready so you don’t have to install any extra WordPress SEO plugins. It just works!

Catalyst Theme – Catalyst is one of the newer theme frameworks on the block, but it definitely is an excellent one. It’s extremely simple to use, and you can design great looking sites with it without touching any code at all. This makes it well suited for new web designers who are looking for a theme framework that has a lower learning curve. It’s also priced right, and you can use the theme on an unlimited number of sites without purchasing a more expensive license.

Headway Themes 3.0 – Headway Themes is one of the most technologically advanced theme frameworks. It offers true drag and drop web design capability via its Visual Editor. Everything in Headway is a block (header, footer, sidebar, etc) and you can move them around in real time as you design your site. This makes Headway the most flexible (and coolest!) theme framework out there. It does take a little time to get up to speed with it, but with Headway 3.0 you can pretty much come up with any type of site layout you can think of. It really is very cool.

Genesis Theme Framework – The Genesis Theme Framework is built by StudioPress, and it is the framework that their huge collection of child-themes is based on. It’s completely SEO optimized for better search engine rankings and if you opt for the StudioPress Pro All-Theme package then you get access to all 44 of their child themes. This is perfectly suited for someone who doesn’t want to spend a ton of time creating their own unique designs from scratch. Instead you can just spend a little bit of time to tweak a child theme that you already like.

While these theme frameworks may be more expensive than a standalone theme, I find that the additional flexibility they provide is well worth it. With Thesis Theme for example, I can use the theme on many of my niche sites and give each one a completely unique look and feel that matches the site. So spend some time with one of these theme frameworks and pick one to learn and start building your online business around.

Email Marketing Best Practices

If you want to succeed with email marketing, then you will have to follow certain email marketing best practices. And of those best practices is improving the copywriting of your emails. What you need to learn to do is appeal to your readers in your email copy so they will take whatever action you want them to take. By using great copywriting, you can improve the conversion rates of your emails and thus make more sales. So the question is, what does it take to write good email copy, and how do you create copy that makes an impact? That is what we are going to cover in this blog post and you will learn some email marketing best practices you can use yourself to improve your copy.

When you are sending out an email to your email list, you want to be able to get your subscribers to take a specific action. In order to do this, you need to stop focusing on features and instead focus on benefits. The email that you send out needs to convince yours readers how whatever you are trying to sell will benefit them. This means creating more focused copy. If you do list features, it is important to follow up each feature with a benefit. This will show your readers what exactly they will be getting and how it will help them if they take you up on your offer.

Another email marketing best practice is to write with the reader in mind at all times. I usually prefer writing in the second person in all my email copy. This means using the word “you” frequently, which allows you to speak to each reader in a direct manner. Never focus on yourself too much, as this makes people feel like you’re an aggressive salesperson. You want the reader to feel that your copy is directed specifically towards him or her.

Email copy also works much better when it is focused on a single promotion. Never send out an email with a bunch of different offers in one email. This has the unintended effect of overwhelming your readers. If you focus on a single offer, then it becomes much easier to create a story around it, which engages your reader and gets them to buy. Always make your copy as straightforward as possible.

Lastly, make sure you are using a good autoresponder like AWeber. It is really important that the emails you do send out get delivered as close to 100% as possible. Good autoresponders like AWeber will help you do that.

If you are just learning how to write good email copy, then be patient because it does take a little time to figure out what to write. Also, make sure you have a subscription to a good autoresponder like AWeber which helps a lot. Once you master this, people will respond as long as you maintain a good relationship with them. Of course you have to work at it and keep practicing, but this is an investment in your online business. So follow these email marketing best practices for improving your email copy, and you will be sure to see a noticable bump in your response rates.
